Heading into the 2022-23 NHL season, I’m going to look at every team to see how they are looking going into the season.

2021-22:

The Red Wings went 32-40-10 last season and finished with 74 points and 6th in the Atlantic Division.

Draft:

The Wings had 9 draft picks during the draft over the summer. They used their 1 first round pick on Austrian forward Marco Kasper. Kasper played his first full season in the SHL last season, and finished with 11 points in 46 games and 6 points in 13 games during the playoffs. As of right now, he had 3 points in 3 games in the SHL for this season. One of the draft picks that I liked was one of their 4th round selections, forward Amadeus Lombardi. Lombardi played his first OHL season last season at 18 years old and he had 59 points in 67 games. He also had 15 points in 19 games during the playoffs and it seemed like almost every time he got a point, they ended up winning.

Additions:

The Red Wings had a great offseason in order to try and have continued success from last season. The day after the 1st round the Wings traded for goaltender Ville Husso from the Blues. Husso got his big break last season during his second season in the NHL and ended up having a .919 SV% in the 40 games that he played. Having Husso will help fill the gap with goaltending. They also got very busy early into the Free Agency period. They signed:

(F) Austin Czarnik; 7 points in 18 games with NYI and SEA

(F) David Perron; 57 points in 67 games with the Blues

(F) Dominik Kubalik; 32 points in 78 games with Blackhawks

(D) Ben Chiarot; 26 points in 74 games with MTL and FLA

(D) Olli Määttä; 8 points in 66 games with the Kings

(F) Andrew Copp; 53 points in 72 games with NYR and WPG

Losses:

The Wings didn’t lose much of anything last season. The biggest loss they had was Sam Gagner who had 31 points in 81 games last season. They also lost Danny DeKeyser who had 11 points in 59 games last season.

Who to look for: Alex Nedeljkovic did have the best season as I thought he would’ve had last season. But with this new roster, I would be prepared to watch him compete.

Prediction:

The Red Wings look really good after the offseason, they had a lot of young players help carry their team last season, and now they have some of those veterans as well. I am excited to see what this team can do and hopefully make a playoff push.
